Adding a table of contents to your PDF document is easy in Right PDF Editor. It takes just a few clicks as long as your PDF document is properly formatted using either levels or styles. In Write mode, format your document using styles, such as Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3, and Right PDF Editor will automatically pick up these styles and add them to your table of contents.

Refresh the table by clicking Update. If there is already a TOC in the document, you will be prompted to decide whether to replace the selected table. If you decide not to, a new TOC will be created.

You can also link each item to the text in the document when creating a TOC. If you allow it to, each heading in the TOC will link to where it came from in the document, which makes it simple for readers to navigate to the specific location in the document.

Create TOC

Once your document is formatted, follow the steps to create TOC:

  1. In Write mode, click the place you want to insert TOC, and choose Insert > Table of Contents  > Insert Table of Contents….

  2. In the Table of Contents dialog box, under General, decide how many levels will be shown in TOC.

  3. Under Print Preview, decide whether to show page numbers, whether to right align page numbers, and whether to use hyperlinks instead of page numbers. If Use hyperlinks instead of page numbers is checked, each item in the TOC is hyperlinked to the text in the document. You can click Options… to define the level for each heading style.

  4. Click OK.

Update TOC

After TOC is created, if there’s any changes in the document, you can do the following to update the TOC:

  1. Choose Insert > Table of Contents > Update

  2. In the Update Table of Contents dialog box, select Update page numbers only, or Update entire table.

Note: you can also right-click TOC and select Update Field to update it.

Delete TOC

Do either of the following to delete TOC:

  • Choose Insert > Table of Contents > Remove Table of Contents

  • Drag and select entire TOC, right-click on it, and select Delete.
