Add rendition

In the Rendition list of Multimedia Properties, with Media Compatibility at PDF 1.5, added video clip is the first and the only rendition. You can replace rendition or add other renditions, so that users can play videoes in their own system. For example, you can add a HD video and a low quality video, and specify the system requirements for playing respectively.

1. Do either of the following to open the Multimedia Properties dialog box:

   • Double-click the play area of the multimedia file with the Select tool.

   • Right-click the play area of the multimedia file and select Properties… from the menu with the Select tool.

2. On the Settings tab, click Add…, and choose one of the following options from the menu. Click OK:

   • Using a File.... Select a file you want to add to the rendition list and click Open. In the Add a New File as Rendition dialog box, the content type is selected automatically.

   • Using a URL…. In the Add a New URL as Rendition dialog box, type in the URL that links to the rendition and choose a content type.

   • Copying an Existing Rendition…. In the Copy Rendition dialog box, select the rendition you want to copy.

3. Select the rendition and click Edit…. In the Rendition Settings dialog box, configure the playback settings to differentiate it from other renditions.

4. Add and edit as many renditions as needed.

5. When you finish adding and editing renditions, click Close. 

Media Settings

This tab has options for adjusting the general properties of the video:

• Rendition Name. Type in the name for the rendition, which will appear in the list of renditions.

• Description. Type in the description of the rendition.

• Media Clip Location. Type in or click Browse… to navigate to the clip.

• Content Type. When you specify the clip location, Right PDF will automatically detect and choose a type. Once you specify the clip location, the content type will be set automatically. Please note that changing the content type settings may cause problems playing the media.

• Allow Temp File. Specify whether writing a temp file is allowed and when. Disallow the creation of temp files if you don’t want users to copy the media content in a protected document. However, some media players write temp files while playing a video clip, and disallowing it may therefore prevent the video from being played by media players that require the use of temp files.

Playback Settings: This tab sets how to play clips.

• Keep player open. Decide whether you want the player to be left open forever or for the number of seconds you specify, or close once it plays the video clip to the end.

• Volume. Specify how loud the video is played.

• Show player controls. Display a controller bar at the bottom of the play area which lets users stop, pause and play. The bar will not appear if Hidden is selected at Playback Location on the Playback Location tab.

• Repeat. Play the clip continuously, or twice or more times.

• Player List. Click Add… to add a player to the list. Select the player and click Edit … to open Player Settings. Select the name of the player from the Name menu and determine the minimum version number of the player. Then specify the Status of the player Preferred, Required, or Disallowed. If there are more than one player that is set Required, only one of the required players can be used to play the rendition. Note that players set Preferred are selected over non-preferred players, and players set Disallowed will not be used to play the rendition.

Playback Location: Set whether to hide play area while playing the multimedia, and whether to show in full screen or floating window.

• Playback Location Settings.

  • Playback Location. Determine whether a video clip is played in a Floating Window, Full Screen, in the PDF, or remains hidden while played (recommended for sounds).

  • Background Color. Select the background color for the media player.

• Floating Window Settings. This section is available only when Floating Window is selected at Playback Location.

  • Show title bar. Select to show or hide title bar when playing the media in a floating window.

  • Show control for closing window. Select to show or hide the close button in the upper part in a floating window.

  • Window Title. Add a title for the multimedia.

  • Resize. Allow or forbid users to resize the floating window.

  • Window Width/Height. Specify the window width and height of the floating window. You can click the Get From Media button to get the dimensions of the video clip (if available) and edit it as needed.

  • Window Position. The window position is determined relative to Document window, Application window, Virtual desktop (for dual-monitor configuration) or Document monitor.

  • If Window is Offscreen. Select whether to play, or move window onto screen to play the media file if the floating window is off-screen.

System Requirements: Use this tab to specify the minimum system requirements.

Under Client system Requirements, you can demand that a user must have at least 512 kbps download speed, and 1152-by-864 screen resolution to play the video clip. For Show subtitles, Play dubbed audio, Show audio/video description and Show supplemental text captions, you can choose Either, Disabled, or Enabled. If you select Either, you refer to the settings in the user’s Multimedia panel of the Preferences dialog box. If you select either Disabled or Enabled, the corresponding settings in the Preferences > Multimedia must allow the rendition to be used. For example, if the Show supplemental text captions is Enabled, the Show supplemental text captions when available preference option must be selected as well to make the rendition work.

Playback Requirements: Settings from other tabs are listed on this tab where you can indicate which ones are required for the rendition to be played. For example, if the volume is set to 70% of the volume of the content in the Playback Settings tab, and you check the box next to Volume, the rendition will not be played unless this volume level can be used.
