Before the advent of the digital age, paper-based documents like magazines and newspapers arrange text in multiple columns which could span across pages. However, since printed material is inherently different from electronic document, reading on screen could be difficult. This feature can guide readers through material presented in multiple columns and across a series of pages.

Define an article

To define an article, you can create multiple boxes around the content following the desired reading order, namely the article thread. By creating multiple boxes, you also establish a thread connecting them with text flow enabled.

  1. Choose Document > Add Article Box. The pointer becomes a cross on the page.

  2. Click-drag a rectangle to create the first article box, which appears around the enclosed text, and the pointer changes to the thread icon .

The label created along with the box consists of the article number and the sequence number thereof. For instance, the first box for the first article is 1-1, the second 1-2. The first box for the second article is 2-1, 2-2, and so forth.

  3. Move on to the next part of document to be included in the article. Click-drag a rectangle around the text and repeat until the article is complete.

  4. Press Enter to finish the article. In the Article Properties dialog box that follows, you may enter the title, subject, author and keywords, and click OK.
