Right PDF AI Assistant offers LLM-based natural language question answering, and is capable of generating documents or text summaries, and translating documents or text to enhance the efficiency of reading PDF.


Prerequisites

You may choose either OpenAI or Azure OpenAI.

To choose OpenAI, you need to:

  • Sign in to OpenAI Platform with an OpenAI account;

  • Navigate to API Keys (https://platform.openai.com/api-keys) page and Create new secret key;
    * Please note: This service requires an active balance in your OpenAI account (see Billing > Overview). For more details on available plans, please visit the OpenAI website.

  • Enter the OpenAI API key in Preferences > AI Assistant.

 

To choose Azure OpenAI, you need to:

  • Have a valid Azure subscription and grant access to Azure OpenAI in Azure Portal.

  • Create and deploy chat completion model and text embedding model in Azure Portal.

  • Enter the information required to use the Azure OpenAI API in Preferences > AI Assistant.


Setting Up AI Assistant in Preferences

  1. Open Right PDF Editor and do any of the following to open the Preferences dialog box:

  • Click File > Preferences.

  • Press Ctrl+K on your keyboard.

  1. Select AI Assistant on the left side of the Preferences dialog box. Then select your OpenAI service on the right side and fill in the credentials.

OpenAI

  • Key: Enter your OpenAI API key.

  • Model: Select a model.

Microsoft Azure OpenAI

  • Use Microsoft Azure role-based access control (Azure RBAC): Once checked, your identity will be verified by signing in to your Azure account.

  • Key: Enter Azure OpenAI API key. You can find it in Keys and Endpoint, under Resource Management in Azure Portal.

  • Endpoint: Enter endpoint. You can find it in Keys and Endpoint, under Resource Management in Azure Portal.

  • Chat Deployment Name: Give the chat completion deployment a name.

  • Embedding Deployment Name: Give the text embedding deployment a name.

  • Model: Select the version of the model.

  1. Click Test to check if the AI ​​Assistant is set up correctly.

  2. Click OK to close the Preferences dialog box.


AI Assistant Features

  1. Launch Right PDF Editor and open a file.

  2. Do any of the following to open the AI ​​Assistant panel:

  • Click Home > AI Assistant.

  • Select text with Select Choose Summarize the selection and other AI tools from the right-click menu.

  1. The AI ​​Assistant panel will appear on the right side of the Right PDF Editor. If this is your first time launching the AI ​​Assistant or the PDF was modified, AI ​​Assistant will analyze the current document automatically and provide content-based suggestions.

  2. The AI ​​Assistant offers preset commands such as Summarize, Translate, etc. for you to choose from.

  3. You can also do any of the following:

  • Copy: Click to paste the answer to clipboard.

  • Copy to note: Click to add a note that contains the answer.

  • Clear History: Click to delete history.

  • Re-analyze: Click to re-analyze the document.

  1. Close the AI ​​Assistant panel: Click the X (Close) button in the upper right corner of the AI ​​Assistant panel.


Use the AI Assistant

  1. Do any of the following to open the AI ​​Assistant

  • Click Home > AI Assistant.

  • Select text with Select Choose Chat about the selection from the right-click menu.

  1. Click to switch modes as needed:

  • Based on AI: AI Assistant generates answers based on large language models(LLC).

  • Based on Document: AI ​​assistant generates answers based on the content of current document. This mode also supports content tracking. Click the link in the answer to view the source in the original content.

  • Based on Selection: Select text with Select tool in advance, and AI ​​Assistant will generate answers based on the selected text.

  1. Click the text box at the bottom to enter a question or prompt, and click Send Question. You can also take the suggestions provided by AI ​​Assistant.

  2. Answers will be displayed in the AI ​​Assistant You can click Copy to copy the ​​answers to clipboard, or click More... - Copy to note to create a note that contains the answers.


Summarize document/the selected text

Right PDF AI Assistant can generate a summary of an entire document or selected text.

Summarize a document

  1. Click Home > AI Assistant to open the AI ​​Assistant

  2. Click the Summarize You can also enter “Summarize full text” in the text box and send it.

  3. AI ​​Assistant panel will show the summary of the current document. You can click Copy to copy the summary to clipboard, or click .. - Copy to note to create a note that contains the summary.

Summarize selected text

  1. Drag-select text with Select tool, and then do any of the following:

  • Choose Summarize the selection from the right-click menu.

  • In AI ​​Assistant panel, switch to “based on Selection,” and then click the Summarize the selection below the answer.

  1. AI ​​Assistant panel will show a summary. You can click Copy to copy the summary to clipboard, or click .. - Copy to note to create a note that contains the summary.


Translate the document/the selected text

Right PDF AI Assistant can translate an entire document or selected text to another language.

Translate a document

  1. Click Home > AI Assistant to open the AI ​​Assistant

  2. Click the drop-down button next to Translate, select a language, and then click Translate. You can also enter “Translate full text to English” in the text box and send it.

  3. AI ​​Assistant panel will show the translation. You can click Copy to copy the translation to clipboard, or click .. - Copy to note to create a note that contains the translation. If the translation is too lengthy for a single note, multiple notes will be created.

Translate selected text

  • Choose Translate the selection from the right-click menu.
